John William Godward

John William Godward (1861-1922) was an English Classicist painter who specialized in paintings of idealized ancient Greek and Roman women. He committed suicide at age 61; his suicide note said that the world was not big enough for both him and Picasso, whose modern style had eclipsed Godward's more traditional mode of painting.
