John Rogers Herbert

John Rogers Herbert (1810-1890) is described on Wikipedia as a precursor to the Pre-Raphaelite style. Most of his paintings have religious themes.

 Laborare est Orare (1862)
[translation: "to work is to pray"]

 Outside Jerusalem (1878)

The Flight From The Sword of Herod

The Youth of Our Lord
[I don't understand why the artist gave Mary such a sour expression]
