Eyre Crowe

Eyre Crowe (1824-1910) was a painter of historical and genre scenes.

 A Sheep-Shearing Match (1875)

Jeremiah Horrocks making the first observation of a transit of Venus in 1639

Slaves Waiting for Sale, Richmond, Virginia (1861)
[His most famous painting. Slavery had been abolished in England in 1833,
but Crowe visited with USA in the 1850s and saw slavery first-hand.
He was appalled at what he saw, and painted this as a response.]
