John Everett Millais, ctd

 Flowing to the Sea (1871)
When visiting Waulkmill, John Everett Millais (1829 - 1896) is believed to have painted “Flowing to the Sea” shown here, and also “Flowing to the River”.  Miss Stibbard, the artist’s daughter-in-law modelled for the picture “Flowing to the Sea” along with soldiers from the 42nd highland Regiment - The black Watch.  In “Flowing to the River “ painted in rich autumnal golds and browns, the picture is also known by the title “The Milstream”. The original painting of “Flowing to the river” is owned by the city of Southampton, and is on view at Southampton Art gallery.
