"Duchess of Nona" looks like a pendant to Titian's "Man with a Blue Sleeve", but the Cowper's colouring is, of course, brighter and his character's clothing more detailed.

My mother was the model for the Legend of Sir Perceval. She posed for the painting in his studio in Cirencester while, as a small boy, I played in his garden and while my father looked after his garden on Saturdays.I would love to know where the painting is today. I have one of the giblets used in this work and remember him as a kind and pleasant man.

ReplyDeleteI actually own one of the 'goblets' not 'giblets'! from the painting. I am still trying to track down its present ownership - for sentimental,not financial reasons. Any help would be appreciated.
