Samuel Edward Waller

Samuel Edward Waller (1850-1903) was a highly skilled painter of genre and historical scenes. His paintings depict complicated stories, the exact nature of which is not always immediately apparent (to the modern eye, anyway - perhaps Victorian viewers immediately knew what was going on).
